About Image Compressor

Modern phone cameras produce files far larger than any web page, email attachment or upload form actually needs. This compressor gives you two independent controls — JPEG quality and pixel dimensions — and shows the resulting file size before you commit, so you can find the point where the image still looks right but weighs a fraction of the original.

How to use Image Compressor

  1. Drop in the image you want to shrink.
  2. Pull the quality slider down and watch the estimated size fall.
  3. If it is still too big, reduce the scale as well — halving the dimensions removes roughly three quarters of the pixels.

Good to know

Compression is lossy and permanent: keep your originals. Photographs tolerate aggressive quality reduction well, but screenshots, text and flat-colour graphics develop visible smearing quickly — for those, reducing dimensions or switching to PNG usually beats lowering quality. Below about 60% quality most photos start showing blocking artefacts around high-contrast edges.

A useful habit: compress a copy, not the original, and check the result at full size rather than in a thumbnail. Artefacts that are invisible at 200 pixels wide become obvious once someone opens the image properly. If you are compressing for a website, aim for a file under 200 KB for a full-width photograph — that is the point where page speed stops being hurt by images.

How do I compress an image without losing quality?

Strictly speaking, you cannot — JPEG compression always discards something. In practice, quality around 75–85% is visually indistinguishable from the original for most photographs while cutting the file to a third of its size.

Why is my compressed image still large?

Quality is only half the story. A 12-megapixel photo carries a lot of data regardless of quality setting. Reduce the pixel dimensions too — most uses never need more than 1920 pixels on the long edge.

Is there a file size limit?

You can compress images up to 50 MB each. The work happens on your device, so very large files are limited by your own memory rather than by an upload quota.
