About Image Converter

One image, seven output formats. Convert between JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and ICO, and open files your other software refuses — HEIC photos straight off an iPhone and SVG vector files. Conversion happens on your own machine using your browser's image engine, so a hundred-megabyte batch costs nothing in upload time.

How to use Image Converter

  1. Drop in one image or a whole folder of them.
  2. Pick the target format — the description under the menu explains what each one is good for.
  3. Set quality for the lossy formats, or a background colour if you are converting a transparent image to JPEG or BMP.
  4. Convert and download. Each file keeps its original name with the new extension.

Good to know

Formats your browser cannot encode are hidden from the menu rather than failing silently — AVIF support in particular varies between browser versions. GIF output is a single frame reduced to 256 colours, which suits flat graphics far better than photographs. Converting a JPEG to PNG will not restore detail that JPEG compression already discarded; it only stops further loss.

If you are converting a batch, sort out the format question first and then drop everything in at once — the settings apply to the whole queue, so there is no need to go one at a time. For a favicon, start from a square source at 512 pixels or more: ICO will letterbox a rectangular image, and a small source cannot be sharpened back up at 256 pixels.

Private by design

Image Converter runs entirely inside your browser. There is no upload step and no server to send anything to — the file you choose is read by the page, processed on your own device and handed straight back to you. That means no queue, no file size quota beyond your own machine, and nothing of yours sitting in someone else's storage afterwards. Frequently asked questions

Which image format should I use?

JPEG for photographs you need to be universally readable, PNG when you need transparency or crisp text and lines, WebP or AVIF when file size matters and the audience is on modern browsers, and ICO for a favicon. The menu shows a one-line summary for each.

Can I convert HEIC to JPG here?

Yes. Drop the HEIC or HEIF file in and choose JPEG. The decoder is downloaded the first time you convert one, then the conversion itself runs locally like everything else.

Does converting to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG is lossless, so it preserves exactly what it is given — but detail already thrown away by JPEG compression is gone for good. Convert to PNG to stop further loss, not to recover it.

Does this work offline?

Mostly, yes! The site uses a Service Worker to cache core files. Once you've visited, most tools work without an internet connection. Some tools that load external libraries (like PDF.js) need internet on first use, but are cached after that.

What are the file size limits?

Images: up to 50 MB each. PDFs: up to 200 MB each. These limits exist because processing happens in your browser's memory. Very large files may be slow on older devices.

Can I add this to my phone's home screen?

Yes! On Android Chrome, tap the menu (three dots) and select "Add to Home Screen." On iOS Safari, tap the share button and choose "Add to Home Screen." The site will work like a native app.
