About Heart Pulse Meter

Measures your heart rate by watching tiny colour changes in your fingertip through the camera — the same photoplethysmography principle a fitness tracker uses, just with a phone camera instead of a dedicated sensor. A live graph shows the pulse waveform as it is detected.

How to use Heart Pulse Meter

  1. Allow camera access and cover the rear camera and its flash with your fingertip.
  2. Press gently — firm enough to seal out light, light enough not to restrict blood flow.
  3. Hold still for around thirty seconds while the signal stabilises.
  4. Read the BPM and watch the waveform.

Good to know

This is not a medical device and must not be used to make health decisions. Movement, cold fingers, uneven pressure and poor lighting all corrupt the signal, and the reading is unreliable at very high or very low rates. If you are concerned about your heart rate or rhythm — particularly if it feels irregular — see a doctor rather than a phone camera. No video is recorded; frames are analysed and discarded.

Sit still and warm your hands first. Cold fingers have reduced blood flow, which is the single most common reason no signal is found. Rest the finger on the camera rather than pressing hard — too much pressure squeezes the blood out of the tissue you are trying to measure. Take a reading after a few minutes sitting quietly if you want anything close to a true resting rate.

Private by design

Heart Pulse Meter runs entirely inside your browser. There is no upload step and no server to send anything to — the file you choose is read by the page, processed on your own device and handed straight back to you. That means no queue, no file size quota beyond your own machine, and nothing of yours sitting in someone else's storage afterwards. It is free, has no watermark, needs no account, and keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

How does a camera measure heart rate?

Each heartbeat pushes blood into your fingertip, changing how much light it absorbs. The camera sees that as a rhythmic shift in the red channel, and the rate of that shift is your pulse.

Is my camera footage saved?

No. Frames are analysed in the page and discarded immediately. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.

Is this accurate enough to rely on?

No. It is a rough indication only, easily thrown off by movement or cold hands. It is not a medical device and cannot detect an irregular rhythm reliably.

Does this work offline?

Mostly, yes! The site uses a Service Worker to cache core files. Once you've visited, most tools work without an internet connection. Some tools that load external libraries (like PDF.js) need internet on first use, but are cached after that.

What are the file size limits?

Images: up to 50 MB each. PDFs: up to 200 MB each. These limits exist because processing happens in your browser's memory. Very large files may be slow on older devices.

Can I add this to my phone's home screen?
